Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I thought Dawn of the Planet of the Apes predecessor ‘Rise’ was an excellent movie, a breath of fresh air that had a story to tell rather than just hoping to cash in on being a part of a classic movie franchise. I’m happy to report that it’s sequel is even better. Dawn has a great and pretty nuanced story, a more than capable cast and most importantly… it probably has the best special effects i’ve ever seen (courtesy of WETA) that brings genuine life to this evolved ape community trying to keep what they have safe. Whilst this is technically a summer ’blockbuster’ it feels like a much more serious film and as such I found the climax a bit disappointing but not enough to tarnish what is a spectacular film.
