X-MEN Days of Future Past

Days of Future Past is an enjoyable but somewhat clunky affair who’s highs almost entirely surround the First Class roster of actors, the brilliant Quicksilver being the most notable exception to this rule. Unfortunately there are several areas in which the film suffers, in particular I would cite its insistence on cutting back to the old cast and what was, for me, a highly unsatisfactory CGI heavy conclusion.

First Class’s real success was that it told a somewhat smaller, more character driven story of friends coming together and being torn apart who just happened to be mutants. DoFP aims for the shallow spectacular with its conclusion, where a simpler, more heartfelt ending would have sufficed. Fun and enjoyable enough, but heavily flawed in key areas.
